The final stretch of the school year can feel like a marathon – and let’s be honest, most of us are running on fumes. But before you hit that finish line, take a moment to recognize everything you’ve accomplished:

✅ You supported diverse learners
✅ You created inclusive classroom environments
✅ You used inclusive strategies to adapt content and meet student needs
✅ You taught curriculum and managed behavior

👏 That’s no small feat!

As summer approaches, it’s easy to feel like you’re running out of steam. The good news? You can still wrap up the year strong – with simple, inclusive strategies that keep students engaged without adding more to your plate.

🧠 Lean on Low-Prep Movement Breaks

Short, simple brain breaks help students stay focused and make transitions smoother – especially when energy levels dip. The best part? They’re easy to implement.

Here are a few quick movement ideas to build into your day:

  • 30-second stretch breaks
  • Freeze dance using content vocabulary
  • “Move if you know the answer” review games

💻 Use Assistive Technology to Lighten the Load

Don’t forget – assistive technology isn’t just for IEPs. It’s an inclusive strategy that can help every student (and you!) during those final weeks.

Try these easy ideas:

  • Use voice typing for end-of-year reflections or journal entries
  • Create digital choice boards using tools your students already know (Google Slides, Seesaw, etc.)
  • Offer audio books or videos for content review instead of traditional reading assignments

Even small tech tweaks can make a big difference when attention spans are low and fatigue is high.

🎯 Preview & Review Games = Built-In Engagement

We’ve talked about it before: previewing and reviewing curriculum concepts boosts comprehension and reduces behavior issues. In May and June, familiarity is your friend!

Here are some low-prep ways to reinforce vocabulary and concepts:

  • Play a Baamboozle bowling review game
  • Act out words in a quick game of vocab charades
  • Use simple matching games for review practice

These inclusive strategies keep content accessible and give students the confidence to participate – right up to the last day.

🎉 Celebrate the Small Wins

Positive behavior supports still matter—even (especially!) at the end of the year. A little celebration can go a long way in keeping students motivated and respectful.

Try these easy ideas:

  • Hand out End-of-Year Gratitude Tags
  • Give shout-outs for participation, kindness, or creativity
  • Set up a group point system toward a class reward (extra recess, lunch in the classroom, etc.)

Small moments of recognition build a positive classroom climate that carries through to the final bell.

You’ve Got This—Finish Strong 💪

You’ve done the hard work all year. These last few weeks are a chance to reflect, reinforce, and celebrate—all while continuing to use inclusive strategies that meet students where they are.

Lean into what’s already working. Keep it fun. Keep it simple. And know that you’re making a difference right up until the end.
